I'm trying to use i386 winnt client in my PC with win98 and win2000. i also loaded seti spy and setidriver. when i exit setidriver, it deletes the i386 file, and i have to copy it from some other directory. i can't remember the order in which i executed seti, seti spy, and setidriver, but it seems to me like i have to be more careful with how i run these progs. this is in win98 partition. got any advice?

Hi Poopaskoopa, I've had the same problem on my son's system. On other systems it works fine...go figure. I changed the name by adding an "x" to the beginning, then when SetiDriver starts it asks for the name of the clien instead of finding it automatically. This is not as automated, but it does not delete the file.

Anybody know why the file gets deleted?

Just run SETI Driver. It will start up the SETI client. I hope it is working for you now?:) Any more questions feel free to ask:)

one more question. is 2.4 faster than 2.04? the best time i got while using 2.04 was 7hrs and 42 secs. i had one that lasted 6 mins and change, but i don't think i'm going to brag about that.

v2.4 CLi is slightly faster on my Cel 366 @ 550 ,around 15-20 mins faster(about 7.8hrs) WU times compared to GUI v2.04.
I have heard of much bigger improvements though on slower machines

Just checked and I see I'm running 1.06 on the original computer, and 2.04 on the others. How do you d/l 2.4? Also is there anything else to improve the results other than running it in the background all the time and minimizing the graphics display? Thanks :)

Yo v2.4 is the command line while the newest gui is v2.04. The command line isn't all that bad I'll let some of the other guys help you out with that. I'm trying to eat a piece of pie right now.:) If you want the command line I'll email it to you so you don't have to bother looking for it.

I'm running windoze 98 so I don't think the command line schtick applies to me, right?

I gave up trying to manually put in links, now I always use the http button.

You can use the Command Line Client on WinNT, Win98, even Win95! :)

BTW, I'm afraid SETI is no longer accepting WUs from clients older than V2.0. So all the work your main machine is doing doesn't count. :( (Unless you're running OpenBSD 2.4, which will also be retired shortly.)

Assimilator1, here's how you do a link now (edited for formatting):

I read that on the SETI site earlier, upgraded to 2.04 so no more waste.

Does the command line client enhance/improve results? I'll check it out :)

For the time being I have both running. The CL has been "Doing baseline smoothing" for an ungodly amount of time now, should I worry?

The command line client is faster than the gui.

Uninstall the gui. You only need the command line running.

Don't worry that's all it will show until the wu is finished unless you add -verbose to the command line. If you want to monitor it's activity I suggest getting http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/. All you have to do is download it and copy it to your seti directory, then make a shortcut to it.:)
