set up RAID 1

I can't seem to set up a RAID1 system on my PC.
Motherboard: Asus P5GD1.
SATA1 connection: Hitachi HDD (system disk C).
SATA 3 & 4 connections: Maxtor S9 HDDs.
In my AMI BIOS I can see all disks.
I configure my Maxtor disks as RAID in the BIOS (IDE Configuration>Configure SATA as> RAID).
The next step is to pair the two disks. Seems to work.
Untill so far nothing abnormal except that Windows XP doesn't start up any more
(stop: 0x00000007B (0xF898D63C, .., ..))!
Nobody I spoke to has a clue, Knowledge bases dont help, anybody????
Txs in advance!!!

If I remember correctly the motherboard also gave boot preference to the RAID and this can cause hangups as well....
somebody wrote on a forum elsewere.
This didn't work for me.

No, I boot on the Hitachi HDD on SATA1 connector, I also set my boot devices to CD>flop>HD (hitachi) and nothing else (disable)

did you configure your RAID via the RAID boot utility? it is usually not found inside the bios, but rather after it and before the O/S boots

Yes I did that, everything works fine there, able to dedicate the two Maxtor HDDs as piared Raid disks, trouble only starts after that when Window starts..

Can you boot into windows at all?
If yes, configure the drives as dynamic in disk management - see if that does it.
