Seems a lot of apparently reputable traders will only trade if you use a paypal account. I tried setting one up a couple of years ago under the assurance that there would be no charge. Of course, as I expected, after I entered all my personal info and credit card number, they said something like, oh, by the way, there's a charge that will be rebated later on under certain conditions. And, of course, there was no cancel button.

I received several emails from them telling me they couldn't complete my application with, of course, no way to email back and tell them, "bug off, you lying cheating dirt bags".

Recently I started the process again and again they claimed there would be no charge. So, does "no charge" really mean no charge? Or does it mean "charge to be rebated later on, if you meet certain requirements"?

Has anyone had any recent experience with them?

It's $1.75 and it is deducted from your first payment.

Who cares if it ensures security?

After using paypal for several hundred auctions, I concluded they are full of sh!t. That ebay has grown so reliant upon paypal is quite unsettling and disappointing. SO i dont' know if they still sneak charges past you, although I suspect it is still the same b.s. as before.

If they charge $1.75 to open an account, then they're still lying, because they claim there's no charge.

Then obviously if they start out cheating you, it decreases, rather than increases security.

Well if you hate PayPal so much, don't sign up. You can send funds without an account.

I've recieved over $100,000 in my PayPal accounts, and have been a member for many years.

It's hard to make money on eBay. They charge like 5.25% then 3% of the difference between start and end price. Then they charge an insertion fee.

Then to top it off Paypal charges around 2%.

It's crazy.

I don't hate them. I just find them to be disreputable, lying fraud mongers. I deal with such low lifes on a daily basis.

How do you send funds without an account? Everytime I've tried to pay someone with paypal, I have to go through some registration process that they try to charge me for. I'm not talking about receiving funds.

For the convenience and affordability, is $1.75 really something to complain about?

And? Each service has its own fees, the eBay ones may be arguable however PayPal's fees are justified IMO. They can't offer a service for free, even moreso if the person buying from you is paying with a credit card. There are certain fees involved that have to be paid no matter what in that.

Thats all well and good, but the OP is angry because they advertise as "no charge" but they're really a "yes charge". I agree with him... it's misleading and unethical.

I'm not opposed to fees for services. It costs me $1.34 to mail a USPS money order. The point is the fees are posted in big signs on the walls and that's exactly what they charge. If I'm at the supermarket, I can save 46 cents, by buying an MO there, if the seller will accept it.

10 posts later, I still don't know what paypal costs. They claimed it was free and then tried charging me $5. Now they still claim it's free, so what does it cost, really? One person says it costs $1.75. Another one says, I shouldn't even need to set up an account. So, can I go to their website and find out? No, because, I have no way of knowing what is the truth and what is a lie.

When I started an account they verified cards with a temp authorization which gets deleted, and verified bank accounts by depositing a few cents.

I've never paid any kind of charge to them, so technically I've made money off of Paypal.

Now that I think about it, this was a referral deal. They probably figured they'd charge the applicant to pay the referrer and if the applicant kept his account open long enough, they'd rebate the money to him.

The indication I'm getting is that they don't do this anymore. I was also notified about a class action suit against paypal, but since I never went through with the process, I really wasn't a class member. If that's the story they really are stupid greedy jerks.

As far as I can see, so did I.

Same here, I've never had any issue with them charging me to open an account.

Wow, back when I signed up they gave you 10$ free or something like that. They went from paying you to open an account to charging you? Oo

I've avoided them for years because of all the horror stories I've heard.

So far so good.

Try reading the thread, before you spout. I made it very clear, I don't object to fees. I object to them lying about them.
