Set of weights: clamp-ons or screw-ons?

So, I got myself a set of dumbells at Sportmart (30 pounds for $39). The set uses nuts that screw on a bar to hold the wights in place. I've used the set for a couple of days, and it was a PITA swapping plates in and out.

Tonight I went into the store and noticed, they have a 110 pound set with a barbell bar and 2 dumbell bars for just 10 bucks more. So, I was like OMGWTF I was ripped! Returned the dumbell set immediately and got myself a 110 set. The thing is, there were 2 types: with clamp-ons and with screw-ons (nuts).

Since nuts turned out to be cumbersome, I chose a set with clamp-ons. I've just tried them, and they aren't the greatest thing in the world either. Plus, it got me thiking: when the springs get weak, will the clamp-on just slide off? Maybe, screw ons are a better idea after all?

What do you people use?

Unless you look like this why are you really worried? I'd just use the clamps so I don't have to fiddle with the screw-ons.

am I the only one turned on by that sentence?

Go ask Trygve ... he seems to workout (specifically referencing the pic where he shows Nik that it is, in fact, his desk ... posted ~11/23 6:40pm for postage place)

Honestly, I have NFC.

You can get some separate clamps that aren't the cheap stuff you get with a 110 pound set.

I recommend acquiring several sets of dumbbells. I started with a pair of 25's a few years ago that I still use a lot and also have sets of 40's 50' and 60's. I end up using the 25's most of the time as you really only need a few sets a week to maintain some muscle strength(curls and shoulder presses)... the others are good too but tend to make you sweat after more than a set or two.

I like the metal screw on holder but hate the plastic ones; the plastic ones bind and i cannot spin them on and off very easily. I have a 100# set that uses metal for the long bar thing and plastic ones for the dumbells, its the smaller holes ones, not olympic sized weights.

what i do need to get is a bench and an inclined bench.

Today I actually found a bench I like: it turns into flat and incline, and even back-inclined bench, too. There are 2 types: one with the armrest for bicep curl, and one with the extension for the legs. Both are $129. No barbell stands, but that's what I like: I'm limited on space in my garage, so I need to fold the bench and stow it away.
