Last night I set my computer to hibernate, I woke up this morning and turned my computer on and left the room, when i came back there was a BSOD. I really didn't pay attention to what it was saying, i just hit the reset button; now after the "Verifying DMI pool data...." nothing happens, it just switches to a blank screen, it doesn't start loading windows like it normally would.

So, I fished out an ERD Commander cd and booted from it and now it says there is "no operating system to mount" I have access to the other two hard-disks in my system... but no sign of primary disk containing the OS.

I'm running winxp pro
1.5gb ram
a7n8x
axp2800+
Samsung 160gb sata (contains os)
2x 40gb Seagate's (contains music, documents etc..)

what do you think happend? and can i fix it?

-Thanks in advance :)

Toss in the Install XP CD, wait until you get the 2nd Repair or Install option (NOT the black & white screen)
and choose the repair <R> option - it should fix it without you loosing any files, but you will need to enter the Product Key again.
In some instances you will have to make the Banglore call to change the Product ID Code.
Sometimes the 'Automatic Angel' will be able to make the ID Code change, if that doesn't work they connect you with Service Reps.

I tried that; right after it it <R> it takes me to the C:\ Prompt; but the SATA drive is still not showing.. Is it supposed to be an automated repair utility? i was going to run sfc but that really won't help if the drive is not even showing up.

I'm thinking about going out to a local computer shop and buying a sata to ata adapter and make it slave and put it in my other computer to see if i can access it that way...

With the SATA - you'll have to run the 3rd Party driver to make the SATA controller work.
It's usually a floppy with the Mobo.

From what you're saying, everything may be toast, or the SATA driver is corrupted.

See if you can find the SATA driver - you should get a prompt to put it in the very first thing in the Boot sequence.

oook, you're right, i remember having to install the drives for the sata controller; so, i rummaged through my attic and found a floppy drive... hit <F6> to load the drivers, it did and finally.... a sign of life, the right drive showed up and it showed my C:\Windows directory and i said yea to fix it and it restarted right away... booted back up and it pops the "invalid system disk, replace and press "ENTER"" pop out the floppy disk push enter and woot WINDOWS XP ........ yay, i'm so happy.

Thanks Capn' Kirk.. i love you!
