services to stop

Hello peeps
I want to know what services I can stop without making my system unstable?
And how much boost will I get by doing this?
Thanks!

Ok... you need to sort your services in alphabetical order.
Look where the services that start with the letter "D"..
There should be one called, "Don't Fvcking Touch Any Of These"
Now.. make sure that one is set for Automatic startup, and insure it is running.
Exit services console.

Reboot and enjoy 🙂

Cliffs:

No significant boost. Lots of lost productivity. Placebo effect. Buy more memory if you are resource restrained. If you have over 1GB and it still sucks, change AV and Spyware detectors as yours are not working correctly.

you guys are forgetting the first rule of 1337-ness: it's not 1337 untill it's halfway broken.

OP, just pick a few running services and disable them. Tell all your friends much faster your computer is now. Also tell them those "error" popups are a feature, just to remind you how 1337 you are.

Tweaking aside there are some services that I dislike, the biggest two are:

The craptastic service that comes with some of creative drivers (can't remember its name), the one that breaks the autoplay.

"Machine Debug Manager" that for reasons i never understood is included in some version of office express install (NO i do NOT wish to debug you &%$@^&%$ [mumble] most #$@& annoying error message ever [mumble]).

And hmmm... 😱 I always hated the index service, some wasted memory and cpu cycles every once in a while is nothing to get excited about, but attaching some redundant additional i/o to every i/o operation in an out-of-the-box installations when most application don?t even use it, always annoyed me.

edit

Now I have to mention this:
I cant remember who it was but this one guy (i think he was an accountant) that pressed 'yes' on the "do you wish to debug" window, call me and said ""come quick, windows just want mad or someting", I distinctly remember VNCing his system and seeing the VB debugger when he said "I can see the inside of windows".
