It would be helpful if you could describe what you expect to serve from this box, anticipated loads, applications, traffic flows, preferred OS ...

Budget is also a good item to mention, since a "good" server can cost tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars (we're getting an 80 core DL980 with a couple T of RAM .... big bucks!). A "good" home server with a minimal load can be had for well under a grand.
