And all I want to do is get some biscuits and coffee....but alas, I have to stick it out here until I can get these stupid ldap servers up. :(

Hah...I feel your pain. Last week was our fiscal year end. We lost power to the part of the building that our server room is in at 4:30am. Unfortunately we do not have a backup generator, and we couldn't get power restored until 8am. Then we found out all 4 batteries in our Symmetra UPS were defective. The power then went out AGAIN at noon, causing everything to go down. Wasn't very fun to say the least. We are currently running on straight A/C power until our replacement batteries get here...

I like it when I come in to work and I have a bazillion messagwes that they can't see the company websites on teh intarweb and want me to fix ASAP.

Funny thing is that it isn't external its the damn internal network that has been failing lately and that is a completely different part of IS. Everyone knows this by now and all anyone has to do is call the helpdesk number, listen to hear if the outage has been reported and if it hasn't the put in a ticket to the Network guys. But they never do it.

Instead:
Them: OMG! OMG! OMG!!!! I can't see my website. Oh geez, the website is down! I have cusotmers that need to see the site. OMG OMG!
Me: You have a browser open to the site, yes?
Them: OMG! OMG! OMG! How can you do this to me? Why do you hate me? I need this site up ASAP! I mean NOW! Please, please, please!
Me: Have tried to get to CNN.com or ABC News?
Them: OMG! OMG! OMG! Their sites are down too! What did you do? I need to view the other sites, too! I need you to fix this, ASAP!
Me: Please try this: undock your laptop and then double-click the desktop icon that says, "Wireless Two" (I created a small routine that enables the wireless to select the free vendor wireless network instead of the secured internal wireless.)
Me: Try your website again. Now, what do you see? ... Hello? ... Did you change to the free wireless? Hello?
Them: <hangs up phone>

That sucks. I can go down to batteries plus and get replacement batteries for the symmetras. No need to wait.

Sit back, drink some Coffee, let the phone ring. If you rush to fix things then you are setting a precedent that you actually care and it will be harder for you to show a level of improvement for a raise when you are already working your hardest :p

Mine were still under warranty luckily. That's why I have to wait for APC to get them here. :)

Based on their weight...I don't want to know what they would cost to replace...
