i didnt know that you could install an OS over a LAN. Would it be something like I put the cd in my computer and then choose the install directory as the server hd?

You can put one of the hard drives in your computer, partition and format it, then copy the entire OS CD to the D: drive.

Or get an external CD drive

Or temporarily attach an internal CD drive for long enough to do the install (but the OS might ask to read from the CD again later)

here is the list of specs:

1 Sony network file server
Pentium IV(4) 1.8GHZ
512MB RAM
180GB 8MB buffer hot swappable hard drive
2 Integrated NIC cards
Integrated Video port
2 USB ports
2 PS/2 ports
Serial Port
