Yep. Light blue screen with the words SERVER BUSY for about an hour.

I was hoping the site was finally upgrading from this ghetto forum software.

Oh well.

Ok, the site went down again for about 3 hours. It looks like some people were able to get on though since there are posts during the time the site was down for me.

maybe its some kind of DNS issue?

every 15 mins AT forums go wacky. its really pissing me off.

Had the issue the entire time between my last post and now. Probably is fixed now that there isnt anymore birthday shenanigans.

People still use IRC?

IRC is doing alright, it's not what it was 5 years ago but Effnet will always be the greatest part of the interweb! I still go on at least once a week.

Effnet + BitchX for life!

ah bitchx, those were the days. i wonder if you can get an irc client to work on a phone nowadays?

With the additional load that the main forums page had due to the bdays I wouldn't be suprised if it was either true server load exceeding capacity or a rudimentary DoS attack. All you would have to do is spawn a few http gets in a loop and it would probably bring the thing down. It is probably a moot point but I still don't know why they don't code in a maximum value for the number of bdays to display or even just remove it.
