Server Service has been stopping on WinXP machines on a floor at work, any ideas on fixes?

We've had 3 different machines in the past two days that have had this problem. They were all using file sharing and first noticed there was a problem when they lost the ability to share. When trying to view group memberships, I noticed that server service wasn't running.

I've tried restarting the service, but that it immediately turns itself back off. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling various networking protocals and services to rejuvinate the service, but nothing worked.

As a last ditch effort, I reinstalled XP on the first one that it happened to. However, now that it is happening to more users, that isn't really an efficient solution.

Hmmm...going by memory alone here there seemed to be a lot of server service starting events, mostly due to me trying to start it. And then an error saying that it stopped.

Just to let you guys know in case you see something similar, it is a worm from the RPC vulnerability in WinNT bases OS's. All of our infections had the side effect of disabling the server service which prevents the viewing of shares and group memberships through computer management. There have been a few other random things that stopped working as well. There is a nice thread at Ars in the WinNT forum describing the issue.
