Server PSU burn out.........

This morning I came downstairs to a burning smell in my media room. Turns out the server PSU has had a problem resulting in burnt out power wires to a couple of HDD's one in particular is a write off as the power socket has melted.

Strangely the server continued to work, the PSU did not cutout which is rather worrying as this could have resulted in a fire.

Anyway I am now looking for a quality PSU for my server, it needs to be able to power a minimum of 8 HDD's but also have safety features that will safe guard my server and house. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you

What you are describing is burnt out connectors caused by poor connections or sloppy crimping job at the factory. Sounds like PS is good. Install new connectors and move on. Also, need more information to make any recommendation on a PS. Brand of server/case, power requirements, single or redundant?

After a bit or research I have gone for a Seasonic SSR-550RT. The PSU that burnt out was a Silverstone Strider ST40F-ES which lasted 4 years.

Don't think the PSU is able to be rescued the wiring to the HDD's is melted.
