For those who worked with different server vendor, what is your opinion on the best dual proc (woodcrest) server for this purpose?

I have a friend who is in hosting business, and he vouch for supermicro servers to be the best of the best. I somehow still believe that servers from known verdor such as HP, IBM, or Dell would be a better server (the price are relatively close except for the warranty). According to my friend though, those other server vendors hardware are not up to par compared to supermicro. In his line of work those server always a dissapointment when it come to performance and reliability.

I'd like to hear everyone opinions here, just to find out what is everyone experience with these server vendors!!

Thx

HP has some grand servers for doing storage, but it depends on the kind of storage. If you can afford to use a SAN with fibre channels get DL580s or ML570s. If not, perhaps get some DL380s which are considerably cheaper, work just as well, they just don't have the capacity and expandablilty of the others.
