This buildout is for a quick and dirty PBX that will support about 70 VoIP clients, a couple of FAX lines, and trunk onto the PSTN via T-1/ISDN.

Case: iStarUSA D-200 2U w/ 350w PSU
- $154.99

MoBo: TYAN S5197G2NR LGA 775 Intel 3010 ATX Server Motherboard
- $399.98

CPU/HSF: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6GHz - Retail
- $0 Bundle w/ MoBo

Memory: Crucial 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR2 667
- $47.48

HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0
- $44.99

HDD Rack: iStarUSA T-7M1-SA-BLUE
- $32.99

DVD-R: ASUS 20X +/- R SATA
- $34.99

FDD (Don't Ask):SONY Black 1.44MB "Skittle-e-De!!"
- $7.99

Expansion Cards:
Digium TDM440E (4FXS) PCI v2.2
- $631.18

Digium TE122B Single Span T1/E1/J1 PCI
- $803.00

OS:
Trixbox CE v2.4
- $FREE

TOTAL: $2,157.59 (About $1000 less than the cheapest Cisco Unity Software License)

I feel pretty confident about everything here except for the PSU that comes bundled with the iStar Case. 350W sounds a little weak to me, but then again I'm not running any type of video card other than what comes on board the Tyan Mobo and it's all CLI interface anyway. And I may switch up to a Xeon processor when all is said and done.

For anything business related its never a good idea to build your own. Buy a brand name so you have support.

Although I'm thankful for your input and in 9/10 cases I'm inclined to agree, for now I'd really just like to keep this thread focused on the system build itself.

I'm very familiar and comfortable with the Asterisk software, I don't plan on leaving my job, and in this case a vendor solution with equal capabilities is cost prohibitive. Just go with me here... ;)

I don't know exactly how memory hungry Asterisk is but I would think supporting 70 VoiP clients would take more than 1 gigabyte of RAM. You may want to consider bumping it up to 2-3GB or possibly more.
