Server based Im setup

I've got the directive to shut down instant messaging within our company. Too many people chatting all day apparently. I'm looking for something that can be locked down to inter company contacts only. Microsoft has their Exchange server but I'm never going to get that approved.

Can someone recommend a less expensive or open source IM solution for a 50-100 user load?

There are lots of open source Jabber servers available, and I believe you can hook them into your LDAP system for easier administration. Pidgin works well as a client.

my company (approx 500 users) runs Openfire 3.6.4 on a CentOS VM. Works great, stable, free, integrates with A/D (so all rosters are controlled server-side), plugin-based...the list goes on.

server setup takes all of about 15 minutes, just run through the wizard and you're good to go.

I watched a setup video and seems damn near fool proof. Going to give it a go. Looks like you can also link it in with external sources on the back end.
