Server 2k3 versus xp pro

Hey there.

I have access to a free (legit) copy of server 2003, which I'm considering running on my desktop (I also have a laptop). I'm kind of considering running my own exchange server (would be hosted on residential cable modem -- is that ok?), and like the idea of having multiple TS clients at once (though I'm not quite sure what i'd do with it.)

My question is: would you recommend this? Does 2k3 slow down a computer relative to xp? Are there any games or anything that will run on xp but not 2k3? How about my tv tuner card?

Oh wow, where to begin... First of all, running your exchange server isn't as easy as you think. It requires that your ISP route all the mail to your domain and then your servers MX record takes over... There will be an extra change hosting your own exchange server from your ISP, if they even do it. You may need to go through a business internet connection type deal for that.

But also, Windows 2003 server is quite a bit different. It will have a lot more services running that your typical XP machine, which means more overhead and less performance.

You should do some more research on this, because I think use 2K3 is a BAD idea for personal use.
