any other ideas?
Yeah. You've been working on this problem for a week now. Hire Eriq Neale for an hour. He's a recognized expert in Mac/Windows domain connectivity. I've attended some of his lectures, and he knows this stuff. He'll also help you with the various Entourage issues if you use Exchange.

So, what happens when you show the "Advanced" properties section of the Security settings for the shared NTFS folders?
If you click the "Effective Permissions" tab and insert the User name or Group, do they come up with the appropriate permissions to read/write?

And you've got the "Sharing" permissions set to the standard "Full Control" for "Everyone", correct?

OP: Where's your answer to this question?

sounds expensive
I guess if you work for your company for free, then it's cheaper for you to keep going. Unless your employees need these shares to do their work....

It appears you need somebody with Mac/Windows file sharing experience to take a first-hand look at your problem.

There's also the fact that is almost assuredly more of an OS X issue than a Windows one, if your Mac user can't figure out how to properly mount a SMB share maybe he shouldn't be using a Mac?

positive it is a mac issue yes. the problem is the mac user knows macs and thats it and everyone else knows PCs. the whole network is all PCs with the artist using a mac (the only mac) so we need to find a person who knows both i guess and have them come out for an hour and fix this because no one knows the answer.

Frankly I can't even imagine what you're doing wrong, I've never had any problems accessing SMB shares via Samba on Linux or OS X. It's always "just worked" for me.
