ok brother got ipod for christmas blah blah blah. installed everything. put the cd in and it shows up in itunes. i used this guide from the itunes site. pushed the import button and it flies through every song and then they show up in the itunes library with each of them having a length of 700+ minutes (yeah it's messed up). try to play the file and it lasts for less than a second then moves on to the next song. looking at the files they are all less than 50kb.

wtf am i doing wrong?

yeah except my brother is 11 and i'd rather not try to explain a multitude of steps to get songs on this thing. i don't see why pushing the import button isn't good enough on its own.

Well if he's 'crying', the above suggestions are a quick and dirty solution to get some songs on there in the interim so he can play with his toy on christmas! :)

I ate so much I'm fighting off sleep here, is the problem with ripping the CD, or with putting the (successfully ripped) CD onto the ipod? If the former, it could be copy protection. The latter, well, I'd suggest ephpod honestly. It's not difficult to use, an 11 y/o should have no problem with it. Even if he likes itunes, something that actually does what he wants it to should be viewed as welcome.

Always worked fine for me, could it possibly be a copy protected cd? Make sure youre playing the songs from the library and not trying to drag the songs from the cd library.

People recommending WMP/Real/iTunes/anything that's not EAC+LAME need to have their ears filled with hot lead, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference ;)

I do have to use it with itunes copy-protected stuff i buy :(

NOTE: i use winamp+ipod plugin and cdex to rip
For movies i use dvd decrypter, autoGK, and videora ipod converter, for plain videos i use videora ipod converter

i hate itunes

itunes/wmp/real = extremely simple for a non-computer person. EAC+Lame... not quite so.

Not really, once you have EAC/LAME set up, its only a 1-click affair.

exactly. you have to set it up. WMP is set bit-rate then click copy to disk. dummies like me can't afford to learn new crap!

actually i use dbpower AMP.

you obviously have never dealt w/ the average normal joe. after you work some kind of retail or support job.. you realize how stupid the general population is. That and ppl are lazy, they want one click or two clicks and it should be done for them. And not everyone is an audiophile, not everyone has the sound system that can make a damn of a difference.

Have you installed the latest versions of Itunes & rebooted a couple of times?

I had a similar problem getting daughter's set up, I got everything going the week before Christmas for her so this wouldn't be a problem.
