Seriously, Warhammer 40k Space Marine is a great game

It has the best guns of any game. they actually feel substantial and they don't feel like squirt guns.

It has hands-down the best jetpack ever implemented in a game

It runs well on a low-end system (mine)

It has one of the best melee systems also in a shooter game since you have fighting-style combos.

Usually the shit goes by too fast to really pull off a good melee, but if you look there are lots of combos you can do, although if there could have been some sort of stun combo that would be huge.

MP is very much alive.

Also, the system of being able to copy the loadout of the guy who last killed you is genius.

Got it in the steam summer sale and quite like it, it seems like fairly basic good ol' dumb fun shooter/brawler, basic story to keep you playing with really quite good pacing of action, cut scenes, story and flow of new and fun weapons to use.

It's visceral and has real punch, the weapons feel powerful and the controls are fairly tight, it's not the best looking game but it runs well. It's a real shame that 3D Vision doesn't work with it, that would have been really good.

I do like the flow from melee to long range, I like shooters and I also like brawlers and games tend to be one or another, you can switch seamlessly from a brutal hand to hand fighting to shooting and then wade back into the fray again.

I was happy for the deal price of a few pounds I don't think I would have liked this full price, it's definitely a good game though, tempted to plug in my PS3 controller and play this on the projector from my sofa :)

Dumb brawlers are actually pretty complex to design.

But in comparison, a game that IMO is wrongly held up as "intelligent" is Galactic Civilizations.

Meh. Wasn't a bad game - but it came with Darksiders as a pre-order bonus, and I ended up spending the whole time wishing they had just slapped a WH20K skin on that game instead.

Also, it had the single most pointless "see moves" screen of all time. Every weapon's move list was "Light attack 0-3 times, then heavy attack" - and they still gave every weapon it's own screen to show that.

I enjoyed it. MP for me wasn't as enjoyable, but I was splitting time between that and like 2 or 3 other games, so I never took the time to master it.

The MP could of been way better IMHO. Nevertheless MP was still fun to play for the few game modes and maps they have currently. It had a lot of uncapitalized potential but sadly it never really took off with enough people to warrant the expenditure of additional resources to refine and expand upon what they already have put out with MP. Single player was also a blast from start to finish IMHO and the story was pretty engaging despite it being your typical 40k story-line in many areas.

I'm finding the MP more fun than the campaign. I mean, the campaign has nice environments and stuff, but the MP is just genuinely *good*. I feel like it is better than Halo

Make sure to pick up Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 while you're at it.

But don't in a million years pick up ME1 or DA1.

The MP always had issues on the latency side, Co-op worked good bust pvp hardly ever did. One main issue is that they did allow dedicated servers. Tons of people complained about it in the forums and THQ really did nothing to resolve it.

My issue with the campaign was just how empty the world felt. For a huge world being completely under attack it sure did not feel like it. And the story line was completely predictable, anyone with knowledge of the WH40k universe saw it coming.

That said Space Marine is really the only WH40k that got it "right" outside of Dawn of War, there has been a slew of sub-par WH40k games coming out over the past couple of decades.

It's fun I liked it, but I want a game based on Craftworld Eldar.

I'm getting tired of SPAAASSSH MAAAHREEEN!

That or get over it if you're so obsessed (directed at any developers tempering with the WH40K universe to make games out of it) by Space Marines then for crying out loud make a game based on the Horus Heresy. Some people playing WH40K games still don't even know who the Emperor even is! I mean c'mon! Establish the lore and don't just have your Space Marines shout "The Emperor's Finest!" here and there.

If not, then give me something about Craftworld Eldar, something along the lines of a game based on the Tyranid invasion of lyanden, or perhaps something with Biel-tan receiving distress calls from Exodite worlds and having to investigate or whatever, just something else than Space Marines for once. And if there's a daring-enough developer out there then try to do something with the Dark Eldar and don't rate the game PG-13 for the Emperor's sake.

But, yeah anyway, Space Marine was alright, entertaining but honestly I never played it again since I completed it just once, it was enough.

A game set during the Horus Heresy period would be cool. Since at the time the Imperium is at its peak, and you could have more elaborate weapons and explain it as one of the many technologies lost in the intervening 10K years.

I would think that the Warhammer cannon would lend itself extremely well to a squad based game a la Gears of War. The first three books, with some minor edits to make it more suitable for a video game, would make for a great game I would think. Then later the attack on Calth would probably be a great source for a game even if it would be yet one more Ultramarines game, and the Blood Angels getting ambushed could be good, finally the Battle of Terra. Even though Black Library is still milking the Horus Heresy book series, it'd take probably 1-2 years, minimum to crank out a game like this.

You could also do a stealth action series, sort of like Thief or even Deus Ex, based around the Alpha Legion.

I would have to say though, that I was a bit underwhelmed by Space Marine. Not even getting into finer points of how the plot differed from "official" cannon, just little things were a bit off. Astartes are supposed to be significantly taller than the average human, so when they're barely taller than the Imperial Guard officer, a woman no less (so would likely be shorter than a man), that was just kind of wrong. And the fact that their armor has some kind of shield... I get it was a gameplay enhancer, but they could have at least said how it was some kind of experimental nano-repair system. And at the end when he goes with the Inquisitor to protect the Guard commander is extremely unlikely considering the Guard is supposed to be disposable troops that can just be thrown into a meat grinder if needed. I also got annoyed with the Ork gretchins who could come up behind you and kill you before you even saw what happened.

Let me guess, you thought Dragon Age: Origins sucked and LOVED Dragon Age II.

WH30k could lend itself very well to many types of genres but I doubt GWS will ever put enough financial backing into something that could come out good. Closest effort was DOW & DOW II but even then the storylines turned to crap near the end (last expansions for both).

The only storylines that are good are in the books. Too bad they can't seem to be able to translate that to a game or, better yet, a movie.

Why is there almost nothing about the AI's that tried to kill everyone, the "men of iron"?

They were mentioned in one of the Gaunt's Ghosts novels in which they found a Standard Template Construct that manufactured these machines but they were corrupted by Chaos so they had to destroy it.

The Space Marines looked to be way taller than the imperial guard peeps.
