Seriously...how do you meet people outside of school!?!

My friends that live down here are still in school so no one is here. I'm like losing my mind. How do you just meet people to hang out with or whatever? I feel like however you do it, it'll be awkward because they have their own click already.....

Also, are there any gyms near irvine that regularly have more asian people going to them?

Online, work, friends of friends... But I'll give you that, it's a lot harder to meet people once you're out of school, especially if you don't start work in an entry level position that would be typical of your peers.

How do you meet people online? I feel like people would be too scared to meet up or it just never happens. I've been to this website called that helps people meetup in groups, but they're all like in their late 20s. I have a couple of friends here (like two), but one barely goes out.

Everyone at work is married, so yeah, they're busy doing yardwork on the weekends. =/

Join a sport of some sort, there are many social leagues that make meeting new people very easy. You should also try not to get caught up in that whole "I have to hang out with people who are the same race as me" thing. Friends are all over the place if you have an open mind.

Until you get past that idea, all is lost.

BTW, El Toro Black Angus FTW.
But, living in Irvine after graduating if not a local, FTL.

Truthfully, I'm just more comfortable that way. I have friends that are other races. But Being in a whole new environment....yah..

Stop being a douche? Just kidding.

Maybe you will not think that way anymore now that the shoe is on the other foot? If not, then you do not deserve any new friends, you elitist pig! (Just kidding again - I am on a roll.)

Did you go there for lunch, dinner or dancing?

no so much dancing.

you know casey then...

I graduated in 1991 (and was smart enough to get out of Irvine), so I doubt anyone I knew there is still there (though I still hear good things about the social life there).

Walk around the street and talk to random people. After you develop an immunity to pepper spray, it's bound to eventually work.

lol i actually did that he second week i was here (went to spectrum). I walked around looking for interesting things. Just noticed everyone there was with their SO or group of friends....I talked to a few people, but nothing really came out of it.

OMG, you're in Irvine and can't find the chicks??! I like tiny Asian girls in their mid to late 20s, and there are plenty around Irvine. Are we talking about the same thing here?

Do you drink tea or coffee? Do you eat? Do you like to touch your computer?? If so, stop doing it at home. Take your laptop over to one of the little Boba shops in the evening or weekends and meet all the cuties. If that's too small, then take your laptop to the Barnes & Noble or the Borders. Do you have a dog? Do you have co-workers who might want to go out to a club or something?

You need to not be inside your apartment to meet people... unless it's through Match or EHarmony or something like that... which is totally an option. I'm guessing there's a good group to choose from in online dating near that location.

Good luck!

Edit: BTW, this topic borders on ATL&R but it's getting a lot more response/traffic because it's on ATOT. I sure wish ATL&R was still mixed in with ATOT.

Dude, just find some local people who share similar hobbies or whatever to hang out with. Hell I'm a grad student at UCI and I am from Newport so if you need a local guy to hang out with or play CS:S then just pm me.

I found that once I graduated I lost some friends who moved back to where they came from but then I gained a lot of friends from where I work. Since I stayed local to where I grew up, all my friends who went away for college are all back so its great. It may be different for you if you are not from the area originally.

Like I said, I moved up here for a COOP position off of Jamboree. So I have only been in the area for 2 months. I can usually make friends. Just haven't outside of school. All of my friends are in Norcal and all my friends who live here are in Norcal as well. So I'm stuck here with one or two friends who I haven't talked to in 5 years (known them from HS). So they usually have their own thing and don't call me up all too often.

if youre ok with religion, you could find a church with a lot of young people. the church i go to in santa cruz has an evening service were id say maybe 75%+ is in their 20's or college age.

I've been doing a lot of things outside my apartment. Mainly work, but i got out to eat outside and shop around often. I don't know, maybe I'll try to hang around the tea places and borders more often with my lappy. I've rather go to the gym though since I like to stay active. I tried to go paintball with people, but a lot of them are too young or immature..

It is spelled clique.

''Click'' is a sound... for example, the noise your mouse makes when you depress the various buttons (unless you have the misfortune of owning a 1-button mouse).

A clique is a small/exclusive group of people, among other things.

Normally I don't spelling/grammar-nazi-ify things, but click/clique bothers me.

Edit: Good thread though. I'll be out of college sooner or later and this is a big concern of mine.

Why be scared that people are already in groups....cause thats pretty much always going to be the case. Just go out and do activies. Going to work and coming home will not get you anywhere. You gotta go join a sport club, go to the bar, join a acting class, find a poker game somewhere, talk to a co worker, go to a concert, go to the gym, go to the park and find a pick up game of frisbee, and so on and so on.

Thank you, I'll keep this in mind so I don't offend any potential friends in the future...

I appreciate your suggestions. But I have been doing those things, whether it be alone or with one of my other friends. Even if I do get to talking to someone, it's just for the time being. I know it'll take time, but like....I don't know how much longer I can take! I went to a rock show this past saturday, been running and going to the gym. Shopping and talking to people.

I haven't tried hanging out near UCI, so I guess i'll start doing that...I guess it's just trial an error until you click with someone huh?
