Seriously Dell, why try to screw your corporate customers?

So why don't you use a company credit card and one of the many coupon codes that's available through Dell Small Business?

EDIT: and by jacking up the price on the corporate end, they're able to keep prices low for home and small business users.

Corporations make more money and can afford to pay higher prices. Supply and Demand baby! If you don't like the price, buy other products. The demand for the dell product will fall leaving the supply at the same point (at first) and then the price will fall unless Dell lowers the supply to match. Short term? It doesn't matter if it's not coming out of your pocket. Long term? You'll never be able to change Dell on your own.
 
on systems, at least, the corporate support is 100x better. every time i have to call for my roommate's laptop, purchased through dell large accounts, i get someone in the US speaking american english who understands what i say to them in under 10 minutes. when i call for my laptop, purchased from dell home, i have to wait an hour for some guy in india who doesn't know what the hell he is talking about explain to me how my computer has no AGP driver because it doesn't have an AGP port.

at least they do apologize nicely after you beat them for 2 hours over the head to get the problem resolved.

I haven't called Dell support in years, and then it was only to get a new CD-RW drive sent out. The Indian techs are really nice when they realize that all you want is a new part, and they don't have to try to help you in their broken English.

BTW, I recently had to download drivers for an IBM laptop during a fresh install of XP Pro. IBM has their sh!t together, without a doubt. Their support site and driver packaging is amazing.

I agree for sure on that one. I always get a fast response. I don't think I've ever waited more than 5 minutes for a tech support call for our corporate machines. And I always get an english speaking american who is fairly competent. I guess that's why they charge more for corporate items.
 
You should see the deals the Feds get! When a new computer product comes out, GSA, the Feds central purchasing department, negotiates a price with the manufacturer and locks it in forever. Think about that for a minute.

Illustration: NVidia releases the 7800 and sets the price at $600. The GSA says "We'd like a lower price". NVidia says "Sure, have them for $550/piece". GSA says "Cool, the fed price will be $550, we just saved the taxpayers $50 per". Six months later the street price of the 7800 is now $500. The fed price is still $550. Two years later the 7800 is selling for $50. The fed price is still $550. Drives the IT folks nuts.
