doesn't sound like a security hole to me. it's not like a software glitch its a company policy they need to change.
good luck.

i was with packet8 for a few months and there service was horrible, called vonage to inquire and they gave me 2 mos free just to switch.

so far, i been with vonage for a week now, called all over the us and canada and it works amazingly well.

sorry to hear all your problems viper, but vonage had local numbers in my area, packet 8 didnt and vonage sent me a router/modem combo box, where i had to buy one with packet8.

i stick with vonage if you can get all your problems fixed, so far, i havent called there support line - no need too 🙂

To those saying 911 would be a problem for Vonage/VOIP users, if they have a working phone line in their house, they can call 911 without having an account with a landline service. Kind of like on a cell phone (don't need an account with a service provider to call 911).

I don't understand having VOIP and a Cell

I can see the point of having a tradtional landline (extremely reliable and fairly secure), but VOIP, fvck, if my cable providers in any of the four cities I've lived in in the past 4 years could keep my internet connection up and running 24/7 for a month at a time, it was a friggen miracle

1. Cliff Notes
2. I think that this is just standard procedure, when i had my Cingular number ported to SprintPCS it was the same way for me, wait a week and all will be fine.

I'm really curious how long you can keep it hijacked without the paperwork being complete.

How do you get a greeting message on the hijacked phone? Can you record one for Vonage to use now, or is there just a canned "hello, please leave a message" (or whatever)

Ditto... I've had far more outages with cable (tv & internet) than with anything Telco based - I've used SBC and Verizon for telco solutions. Both have their flaws, but both are relatively good, IMHO. If there's DSL available in an area that cable is in, and the available speeds are comparable, I'll go with DSL.

I can record an outbound greeting any time I want.

As for how long they'll route calls without the LOA, who knows. There is no mention in any of the documentation I've received.
