they are only 500mg, I have been taking one every four hours since noon, so I have taken 3.

I dont think I am addicted now, but I just wanted to know what to look for, and what to avoid, so I didnt.
They are not 500mg, that is how much acetometaphin is in them. Since they are 500mg tylenol they are probably 5mg hydrocodone which is pretty much next to nothing. 5mg hydrocodone is not even a recreational dose so I wouldn't worried about getting addicted too much unless you have really really weak willpower.
If you are seriously worried about getting addicted only take them when the pain comes, don't take them on a schedule.

Millenium knows alot about this stuff so maybe ask him and see what he thinks.

Having said that, I've popped hundreds of Vicoden (and loads of other pain killers) and I've never become addicted. I'd imagine it would largely depend on the person and how they react to the drug.

Hydrocodone is a far cry from morphine. Hydrocodone (vicodin) < oxycodone (percodan) < morphine.

Actually... 10mg of Hydrocodone is equivalent to 5mg of IV/SC/IM Morphine.

It is a 2:1 ratio when converting morphine to hydrocodone. i.e. 10mg of hydrocodone every 4 hours over 24 hours would be 60mg of hydrocodone or equivalent to 30mg morphine.

Now, if it is 5mg Hydrocodone or 7.5 the conversion is less than 5mg.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I took vicodin, and even had the prescription refilled because of complications. Never had any problems with the drugs, though.

I just last month took massive doses of morphine and vicoprofen (like vicodin, but it has ibuprofen rather than acetominophen as a complement to the hydrocodone), after surgery for a ruptured colon. I never felt any euphoria whatsoever, and was glad to be done with them once I was out of pain. Definitely be careful about not taking them any longer than you need to, however.

and lets not forget the very best one of all - hydromorphone!!

everyone give a cheer for dilaudid!

and don't worry too much....i work in a pharmacy and we fill more vicodin and percocet than you could imagine. one bottle with no refills is not going to get you addicted. the absolute worst that would happen is a headache resulting from suddenly not taking them if you have been popping every 4 hours for the past few days, most like a caffeine headache that you would get.

barely.

go ahead and pop them, you'll barely catch a buzz. It will take a *long* while to get really worringly addicted to vicodin. no worries, no doc would prescribe enough to get addicted in one run

I had this when I got stitches in my mouth.

I was supposed to take one every 4 hours for like 2 weeks. I took maybe 8 in total. Those things are so powerful, I was only awake maybe 6 hours a day.

If you are taking Vicodin because you like the way it makes you "feel", not because you are in pain, then you are seriously at risk of addiction.

None of these people will ever have enough access to sustain, let alon develop an addiction. I once finished of 30 oxycodone in about 3 days which is really nothing when you think of severe abuse of the stuff. I've also taken hefty doses of the stuff for extended periods of time (1.5 months) and suffered only a little achiness as withdrawal, if that was actually even related to cessation.

Yes, you can addicted to opiates but it isn't as easy as its made out to be - at least with the lower-level stuff like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and the like. Fentanyl, Dilaudid and Heroin, I have no idea about, nor want to.

Yes. I would start trying to slowly trim down your dosages before you run out.

On vicodin -> 16 hours of dreamy sleep/haze a day.
Off vicodin (cold turkey) -> 4 hours of restless sleep a day

Isn't demorol more powerful than vicotin? Although I don't think it's availible outside of the hospital.

I haven't had the chance to take vicotin or any strong narcotic yet; my wisdom teeth are coming out this summer (hopefully), so this may be a chance to partake in the "experience."

If one is predisposed to opiate dependency, its even easier than it is made out to be, or there wouldn't be so many pill-junkies out there, particularly iatrogenic addictions. If one is not predisposed to opiate dependency, they might use oxycodone and hydrocodone for extended periods and develop no desire to take more than the minimum necessary to give them suitable relief from pain, and have no desire to keep using the drug after their pain has subsided.

While a visit to the ER or emergent-care clinic for minor injuries (stitches, sprains, contusions, simple fractures, etc.) will typically fetch no more than a 2~3 day supply of any controlled substance, I've been prescribed 2-week to 30-day supplies of Vicodin and Percodan before.

Even many iatrogenic addictions are not truly iatrogenic, but are precipated by recreational exposure to the drug well before having it prescribed for some legitimate medical purpose.

I got a bottle of Vicadin for pain after I got my wisdom teeth out. I was 15 back then, and someone told my mother how easy it was to g et addicted to them, so she hid them from me :(

I had a friend at work offering to pay me for the bottle because he liked taking them with beer, what a whacko.

Hi, fellow vicodin-dental survivor! Though yours sounds a lot worse than mine. Yes, vicodin can be addictive, but as the gang notes, if they knock out the pain and you DON'T feel kind of euphoric, then you aren't going to have addiction problems from one bottle of the stuff. If you are succeptable to extreme addiction - and it does happen - then you would be enjoying the feeling you get from the vicodin, in addition to enjoying the pain relief.

Do you get the difference?

Vicodin messes up my stomach, too - nausea, not euphoria. Anyway, don't freak out about a bottle of the stuff for dental pain - you need it. Even if one bottle were to get you "addicted", it's early enough in the cycle of things for you to get down off it - and then you'll be aware of the problem if it ever happens again, so you can avoid it.

Congrats on your survival.

Only about 1-in-10 will get addicted to vicodin after the pain is gone.

I had severe neck pain from whiplash injuries that necesitated vicodin for about 8 months . .. after the pain was gone, so is my desire for the painkiller.

It is a rather unpleasant "high" and pretty bad "healthwise" for long-term use (but very useful to kill the pain). ;)
