Is it normal for it to hurt like a b!tch and then to bleed profusely during/after one?

I've never bled during a standard pap smear before, and I've had so many problems with this particular gynocologist in the past. The only reason I went to him yesterday was to get a refill for a prescription, but he insisted on doing a pap smear since it's been 6 months.

The clamp he sticks in and then twists to open things up was DIRTY. He pulled it from a bin full of instruments in (what I assumed was) sanitizing solution, used it on me, and then tossed it back into the bin. WTF WTF WTF??? Some of the instruments were half-in the solution, half-out. I wish I'd brought my digicam so I could've taken a picure of it.

During the pap, he jabbed the swab much too hard, to the point where it hurt (normally, it's supposed to be a soft swab), and his glove came away covered in blood. He kind of chuckled and told me it was normal when I looked shocked.

This same gyno performed a procedure on me in the past that did NOT need to be done after I consulted with a second doctor after-the-fact. Lesson learned... ALWAYS get a second opinion before a doc does anything serious with your body. The procedure he performed on me increases the chance of miscarriage in my future, and if this fvcker messes with my fertility, I'm going to be PISSED.

I'm filing a consumer complaint against him with the Medical Board of California. Can anyone think of anything else I can do?

(I know AT probably isn't the best place for this, but mrsskoorb is a nurse and there are other females here who can probably/hopefully relate)

*microwaves popcorn, who brought the Dr. Pepper?*

This isn't a topic suited for a computer forum filled with 14-16 year old nerds.

Then again I'm a 29 year old uber nerd ;)

Your OB/GYN sounds like a real quack. I can't blame you if you decide to file a complaint. Good luck, and hope something good comes of it.

I won't be, believe me. I just don't want any other woman to have to go through that. :(

My normal gynocologist (who works in the same office as the offending doctor, Dr. Gold) even told me that he should NOT have done the procedure/surgery on me that he did. He admitted Dr. Gold was older and "a bit behind" in the ways of recent technology.

Case in point... I was asking him questions about birth control pills, and he kept stressing one type was better than another because "some of these pills are so new that they don't even have a generic made for them yet!" At which point his nurse said, "Um, excuse me doctor, but I use that brand and they do have a generic pill available for it." And Dr. Gold said, "Oh, well, some of them don't."

Uhh I don't know about that....

Unfortunately, I don't know if that'd be possible. :( The thought crossed my mind and I do plan on trying to have children in 2-3 years, but I don't know if I'd be able to trace it back that far. He did the procedure about seven months ago.

Best way to tell if he's a quack:

Ask if you can have a speculum. (the aforementioned clamp thing) If he says "sure, why not" he's a quack. :p

Not to scare you or anything but a sensitive uterus can be the beginning stages of Endometriosis. My wife has it and this was her first sign. I would definately find a different Gynocologist though. No point in going to a man/woman you don't trust or feel comfortable with. You should probably go to a new Gynocologist ASAP to see if it was caused by mis use of the clamp or a sensitive lining of your uterus.

O_O I'm a guy, but here's my understanding. A pap smear should just be gently obtaining a swab of cells for analysis. I would guess it's kinda like in science class when we too a swab of the inside of our cheeks to look at bacteria etc... It shouldn't come out bloody unless: 1) You're in your period. 2) You have some cancer developing there. If none of the above, then that doctor SUCKS! Complain complain complain! And if you have time... lawsuit!

Jeebus....:disgust:

Definitely file a complaint against this guy. I'd bet you if he's this bad, other women have probably complained about him before.

He was so unprofessional I didn't even know what to say or how to react. I think he was also in a bad mood, because the nurses kept saying, "My you're grumpy today." :(

One thing I'm slightly worried about is when I file a formal complaint in writing, it won't be anonymous. Will my name go in record somewhere, making it harder for me to get care if doctors know that I've filed a complaint against another doctor in the past?

I didn't see this until after the procedure was finished. When I was left to dress, I opened the cabinet to see where he had retrieved/returned the instrument, and was horrified at what I saw.

ouch, that Gyno sounds like a bad one.
my wife told me that it didn't exactly 'hurt' when she went through her pap-smear, it's more like uncomfortable kind of feeling.
hope you're ok.

why the hell would you go to a doctor who you already knew was performing uneccesary procedures?

1) Period ended last week, so it wouldn't have started again so soon.
2) I don't think it's cancer, last check all cells were normal. :(

I have the time, but I don't have the money for a lawsuit. Right now, I just want to file a complaint without having it come back to hurt me in the future.
