I have a very serious question.

Can I take a P3 socket type CPU that has speedstep on it, and put it into a slocket converter and then put that onto my 440GX based motherboard? Will the speedstep still work through the slocket converter? Will the GX board recognize my CPU?

Ok I just found this information out. My CPU is a P3-700Mhz with speedstep. I think it is in what is called the FC-PGA form, but I'm not sure about that. The motherboard I want to put it in is a Tyan 440BX based motherboard which has the SLOT1 interface for the CPU. So I want to put my speedstep CPU in the SLOT1 on my Tyan motherboard. Will this work? What is the name of the slocket that I need and do you know where I can get it? Do you think my speedstep will still work?

PS. Don't ask me why I want to do this please ;)

Isnt speedstep on mobile chips? Is this a mobile chip? If so, I dont think it will work. If it is a standard FC370 then you can buy a slotket for your MOBO. Asus makes a good one. Check out their website. Other people here will give you more info on other slotkets.

Sppedstep is only on mobile CPU which runs on differen core voltage. What you need is a desktop (regular) FC-PGA P3-700. Agree with Oyeve with the choice of slocket.
