Serious problem with Tyan dual Athlon motherboards?!?

This is disheartening . . . 🙁

All sorts of weird problems are talked about in that thread . . . basically any problem you can think of, some of the boards had issues with.

Anybody here have one of these boards? How is it working for you?

Well, our forums are running on dually Tyans so it can't be THAT bad:Q

Another article about the situation

NFS4, are you guys using the NMB or the Delta power supplies? Tyan is saying that there is a problem with some of the NMB power supplies. EDIT - and a lot of the problems being reported seem to go away when only 3 of the 4 DIMM slots are populated.

man, we were just about to build systems with these boards, only thing actually missing were the PSUs. now we'll wait for new reviews, BIOS-versions or any sort of real explanation of the problems mentionned in the articles/threads you linked us to.

thanks, thanks and again thanks for this hint.

I've had no problems with mine but it's only been running for 3 days. I read about the NMB powersupplies so I got mine from PCPower & Cooling - cost $100 more than the NMB but it's a name I've trusted for years.

bozo1,

i looked at your rig to find out the exact PSU-model you're using with no problems, but it simply indicates 450watt from pcpower&cooling. would you mind telling me the model-code.

by the way, could this simply be PSU-related problem like so many others.

It's the Turbo-Cool 450 A4 found here.. Same as their regular Turbo-Cool 450 but with the connectors needed by the Thunder.

I haven't read the amdmb thread for a few days but a number of the problems I noticed were PS related, older BIOS problem and older board rev problem. Seems a number of resellers are/were still selling the old rev of the board.

The Tiger version of the board (without all of the onboard goodies, 4 64-bit PCI and 2 32-bit PCI) will thankfully be able to work with a standard ATX power supply.

Hopefully it should be okay, I was going to get the Tiger instead of the Thunder.

I think if you read over the specs of the AT forums server, a 1u special made server, with its own special PSU, and special picked ram, no high performance video card and the fact that it is almost totally different than the typical desktop PC would be less than ideal to compare the typical production desktop/workstation platform with that we would be using. These problems have me very concerned as I was seriously considering using it myself.

Hopefully the offerings of the other manufacturers will net a much better result
