I drive a SUV, a 95 Nissan Pathfinder, I'm 42, male, registered as Republican but tend to vote across party lines from time to time, divorced but in a 6+ year domestic partnership.
My family has had an SUV and a full size 4x4 truck since 1984 (before yuppies got to them), reasoning: We need four wheel drive where we live to do what we need to do with them. My car is two wheel drive, if I need four wheel drive I'll borrow one. As far as political affiliation: my dad's registered republican and my mom democrat so they get to vote in both parties, not because they agree with either.
If this poll is supposed to mean anything you've got to consider your source. So most people in this thread are male and conservative. Now, consider what population you are drawing responses from. Most likely male and conservative. So you can't really draw any sort of conclusion in good sense.
I think you're right Capn...lemme ask this though, how many of you use your SUV for something a car or minivan couldn't handle, and how many use it just for the image (whatever that may be in your opinion)?
When you find a car that hauls 8 foot lumber and moves large quantities of stuff to and from dorms and such, let me know. Until then I'll stick with a Suburban.
I used to drive a Land Rover Discovery -- now downgraded to an occasional cruise on my sis' Montero... When I register to vote, I'd most likely be a Republican.
I love those people that drive em just for the looks or because they're the trend. Nothing amusses me more than thinking of my 20 year old female friend driving off road in suburbia while trying to fix her make up (and I'm not stereo typing, she does put on her make up while driving).
