It seems to me that most of the nightmare scenario re: ASI is predicated on the AI "building" itself to some extent. If the system is directed to constantly improve its own intelligence then an exponential curve and evolution beyond human capability seems inevitable.

But what if we just don't program/design/give it the resources to do that? Progress will be slower but at least we have a shot at maintaining some control over each iteration.

As evident by why the politicians are who they are. The voter actually puts these idiots in office term after term after term. They are there until death FFS!

People have one damn fought and bleed for privilege and they use it without a care in the world. Just look at California or Detroit. Even Shitcago and Baltimore. Unreal.
This is actually right but I also believe that it the outcome of Convenience culture which has brought in by the tech advancements!

The problem with discussing fanciful ideas like ASI is the same as discussing motors to take us to the stars before any sort of working motor has been created.
