I have cable internet service through comcast. I've had it for years and it's worked fine. Last week I decided to set up a network of sorts, because I needed to connect my Tivo to it (don't have a phone line). I bought a D-Link DI-604 4-Port Broadband Router and a D-Link wired USB adapter (don't have the model number handy) to hook up to my Tivo. Got it all hooked up and everything was working fine for a few days. Then yesterday I wasn't able to access the web via my computer anymore. I checked my cable modem (a Motorola Surfboard SB4200), and all the lights were still on. The WAN light on my Router was flickering but on (can't remember if it was on but solid before), but none of the LAN lights (or whatever they are called) on the router were lit up. I rebooted the modem, router, everything, but nothing changed.
Finally, I just unplugged the cable connection from the router and plugged it directly into my computer's ethernet port (which is the way it was set up until a week ago) and even that wouldn't give my connectivity, even though the modem lights are all on. I don't know what to do. I called Comcast and they don't have any outages at the moment and my account is in good standing. Is it possible my modem itself is fried? Could the router have anything to do with it? I'm at a loss. All my usual troubleshooting solutions have yielded no results. Any ideas on what might be going on?
