Hi,

I have recently setup a AMD64 +3500 130nm CPU on a MSI Neo4 Platinum with a simple PCI-E graphics card, 512MB DDR, DVD-RW, and IDE hard drive.

I have random system crashes, in which the compiter either just restarts itself or I get a blue screen saying windows had to shut down to prevent damage to the computer. Below are two messages I have got from these blue screens:
win32k.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I had these troubles with the my exsisting HDD which I put in from my old system, so my friend told me that it was because newer systems dont like this,, so as a result I put in a fresh formatted HDD and at first it was ok, but then problems returned.

In that the system instead of the blue screen coming up then system restarted, It simply restarted with no blue screen errors. And also upon start up of window it would have 1-2 boxes saying 'Windows has recovered from a serious error', I chose send error report, and the windows website said graphics card device driver error once, then the rest it doesnt know and is still researching the error.

Maybe it is a device conflict? I have tryed updating the bios and all device drivers to latest versions,, I find that if I leave the system of with say a downloading program on, it will be fine for hours on end,, but as soon as I start loading up mutilpe programs, etc it crashes within 5mins-30mins.

Please please somebody gove me an idea of how to solve this problem, as it is really annoying me! (CPU temperatures and systems temps. are fine at all times, by the way).

wierd random crashes are likly to be either
1) PSU -- remove unessessary devices to lower power strain and test (or another psu would be better) **did you use an old psu? (amd64's require a fair amount of power)
2) RAM -- lower memory timings for testing and or remove sticks, change slots, increase voltage

also are you overclocking?

Did a complete Windows memory diagnostics test, and everything was fine.

Its a completely new system, all new parts.

I have a brand new Tagan 420w PSU, I thought this would be able to handle it.

System is not overclocked in any way.

Thanks for your suggestions, please give more from this info.

THanks!!

Yeah the PSU should be ok....I would lean towards this being an issue with your memory.

You are almost certain suffering from memory corruption. The normal memory test is not worth a damn. Also, memory corruption can have other causes than bad memory, CPU, chipsets etc can all alter data floating towards or from RAM.

Get more RAM-monitoring system tests, for example prime95. The ultimate RAM test is FreeBSD's `make world` but that might be a step too much for casual testing :)

Chode,

Are you using the nVidia SW-IDE drivers?
These are notoriously flakey and could easily be causing your problem.

If you are, try switching to the generic M$ IDE drivers in 2K/XP and see what happens.

Let us know.

I have also had similar issues that were RAM. do you havemore than one RAM chip installed? If you do, take one out and run with only one for a while. Then try the other. I had a RAM chip that passed all the memory tests I could throw at it, but when I removed one of the chips, it ran perfectly. I assume it was a faulty DIMM.

Are u using the Nvidia hardware firewall/active armour ? If so,
try uninstalling them and see if your rig is more stable.

Thankyou very much for the suggestions!

The memory I have installed is 1x Corsair 512MB DDR installed in slot1.

I have a feeling it might be those drivers.

***TO MartinCracauer: I tryed Prime95 test and had the following results:
Go to this link, its a screenprint of the results... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/con2000/prime95.JPG

I'm gonna re-format again and not install those nVidia SW-IDE drivers.

The memory is brand new and installed correctly into slot1 with no other memory installed, so I don't think it could be the memory thats at fault.

Thankyou again so much for youe help, YOUR THE BEST GUYS! :D
