I thought it was pretty cheesy and lame, not to mention cliche.

the only part that really interested me was the mystery behind River, which got totally ignored on the show until the last couple episodes, and when finally revealed in the movie, was kind of a letdown anyways.

Yes, let's point out that Star Trek and Babylon 5 and <insert sci-fi show here> have done every sci-fi idea imaginable, therefore a show is cliche if it repeats any ideas from those shows even if it does a MUCH better job

Great opportunity to catch up on the series - it's being shown on UHD starting the end of September...

Great show, disappointed it was axed. Fox takes the full blame here for showing the episodes out of order - they wanted 'action' sooner and it totally destroyed the series.

Oh, and I hated Buffy but loved this show.

One question, which one comes first. The show or the Movie?

The series came first. The movie takes place several months after the events in the final episode of Firefly.

Supposedly, Joss Whedon plans to make two more movies, but it was a while ago that I heard those rumors and haven't heard anything since.

The movie flopped because fanboys hated how some of the characters ended up... so I don't think another movie is coming out. 🙁

I would have been all for sequels though. The movie was awesome!

It flopped? Was it even in theatres? I didn't hear anything about the movie or the show until it was all over because there was no advertising 🙁

The studio tried a different form of adverstising for this movie and it pretty much killed the movie at the box office. They basically held screenings around the country for bloggers and fans hoping to generate word of mouth buzz. The thing is, the majority of the bloggers had favorable opinions of the movie but it wasn't enough to drive people en masse to the theaters to see it.

You have to subscribe to one of the HD packages from DirecTV, DISH, your local cable company to get it.

it's possible to steal ideas and still be pretty interesting and originial (see: BSG)

Firefly might have been better if it stole ideas from ST... rather, I found Firefly to be a compilation of every cheesy western movie with some pewpewlaserguns and space ships thrown in.

Thats too expensive at the moment for me. Would have to invest on a new TV and a new Satellite box from DirecTV.

The movie was complete crap. I think it was either written by monkeys or maybe a 10 year old. "You spin me about" - yeah great writing.

That is FOX for you.

Bah, it was a fun show, if you were willing to accept the silliness of the characters...it was more of a "sci-fi comedy with a 'serious' edge"...enjoyable, but popcorn sci-fi. I felt like I got my money's worth from the DVD's and movies, and I would have liked to see more, but I don't pine for the series now that it's gone.

Now Battlestar Galactica on the other hand....

I heard about it in theaters, saw it there, and then I bought the series. 😀

That's why I liked it. You could have deadly serious moments but then you'd get stuff like Jane saying, "I'll be in my bunk" or the War Stories episode where Mal and Wash are captured and tortured by Niska. The whole scene where they are arguing over Zoe while being tortured is just great.

Firefly had a 5 year arc. When it was canceled, they had to cram the last 4 years of the story into one movie to try to wrap it up.

Even Josh Whedon stated his disappointment with having to do this and knew that the movie was lame.

Also, this series was intended to be campy and goofy, and that sort of humor is not for everyone. Just like (for example) many Adam Sandler and Jim Carey movies. Some people enjoy that kind of idiot humor, and others just think its stupid. To each his own.

You mean Firefly right.

I loved both the TV series and the movie. Its unfortunate that it had to be cut short like that. And even more unfortunate now that the movie is out and the way the movie is, there will be no come back. Lets just hope Mr. Whedon can come up with another great show and execs will be smart enough not to can it.

5 year arc? I hope not. They dragged out the boring-from-episode-one river "mystery" way too long in the few episodes they actually made.
