serial to usb cable

I just got a serial to usb converter cable from newegg. I'm trying to hook me Skycaddie/GPS up to my new computer which doesn't have a serial port. I installed the driver and it appears to be working in the Hardware profile list (shows as a port on com4). It will not connect to the skycaddie site to down load my info. Any idea on a fix for this? Maybe it's a bad cable?

Hi, Go to Skycaddie's web site and see if they have a USB driver. The driver has to know where the device is connected or the adaptor has to do it. Jim

I've looked at their web site over and over. There is no drive to be found. I think I am just out of luck with this thing.

3/4 of the people who I've seen talking about usb2serial devices say they can't get 'em to work. I'd try browsing all the ones at Newegg and looking for the ones with good reviews.

Hi again Lar, Try driversguide.com. They just might have the driver you are looking for. If they don't they sometimes will point you to someone that does have it. Free registration, free downloads. Good Luck, Jim
