serial to serial pc to pc communications

i have an assignment to write up the procedures for the following:

Using a DOS 6.2x boot disk, write the procedure for serial computer to computer communications. I have done this in Windows, but not in DOS only using a boot disk

I also have to describe the same process with parellel communications.

well... net use, doesnt that create mapped network drives? to be honest if anyone runs into this type of thing and needs it, its probably better off to just throw away the system, but this is the assignment, so you know how that goes.. what about the software lap-link has anyone ever used it?

Lap-link was what I was going to suggest.
I haven't used it since Windows 3.11 was current...
