Serial Port to parallel port conversion

My wife's laptop does not have a serial port. Her steno machine only works through a serial port. I found a parallel to serial converter (hardware) but the port needs to be recognized and converted to a COM port for the software/hardware to see it (It doesn't recognize LPT as a port)

Are there any parallel to serial converison programs, or drivers, I can use, or should I just buy a usb serial adapter?

Thank you!

Try the CMOS BIOS setting for the parallel port. May need to be switched to "ECP Parallel port" to enable both send and receive function.

I've done that. The software doesn't recognize the LPT port as a com, since it's not serial. Just wondering if there was a way to convert to serial, to fool the software into thinking it was a serial port.

The odds are you found a 25 pin to 9 pin serial adapter, not a Parallel-Serial converted. AFAIK, unless such a device exists, you will need to buy a USB serial adapter.
