I suppose ComputerGate.com and similar would sell serial mice or combo (serial/PS/2). My original Trackman Marble FX is a serial/PS/2 combo. I don't know what I'll do if it ever dies...

dead as a door nail.

USB may not have obsoleted PS2, parallel and serial (rs232) devices, but boy are manufacturers saving money by creating USB only devices.

Yeah, it sucks since there are no good USB mice(yes, I call them mice, "mouses" may be more appropriate, but it sounds horrible) :)

A friend of mine works at Logitech and told me they're gonna cease production of the 3-button Pilot Mouse.
Im gonna be buying a load of those so they'll last me a while.

I wouldn't doubt it. Most USB ports still require an inordinant amount of CPU attention; plus, they usually share IRQs with the other USB ports and other onboard devices. Contrast that to PS/2 ports, which have their own dedicated IRQ (12), and a dedicated microcontroller (mini-CPU) to process the data.

An analogy could be made between a software-driven sound card, vs. one with an onboard audio-processor/DSP chip.

I've actually found that my Logitech OEMed Dell "Dove-bar" two-button PS/2 mouse, has higher resolution (800DPI?), than my 5-button Belkin optical scroll USB/PS/2 mouse (400DPI?).

Trying for a head shot in UT, and the mouse cursor jumps 3 pixels at once. Not good.

The back of the box mentions 800DPI, but I can't figure out how to adjust the DPI of a generic HID input device/HID mouse, in either Win2K or WinXP. Anyone know?
