No, I don't think most people would find it natural. I don't think its necessarily bad, but its definitely a sign in my opinion. I think personal space between the two is typically setup so that the guy has a den or the garage and the girl, well I don't really know what the girl would have (the rest of the house maybe, I don't know).

Only if one of them snores too loudly for the other to sleep. 😀

Yup. The only people I know that sleep in different rooms are those that have a huge chronic snoring problem.

I really dont care what other people do. If its feels natural, do it. If not, dont. Personally I can sleep on a cement floor with 12 snoring men without problems, so sharing a bed is easy.

I definitely see GeeKBabe's point of view.

We've been together some 13yr years. She is restless and I'm a snorer.

She likes to go to bed before 11, me, around 1am. If we are both in bed by 11, she will stay up with me, then be tired the next day. If I snore too loudly she will move to the couch......

I usually pass out on the couch and wake up around 3am and then come to bed so that I give her some quality sleep from 11pm on.

I can see this working, our new mattress will be here in another week so our old one will be going into the guest room. Perhaps we will try this.

It seems kind of strange to me, but then again my wife and I sleep very well together. I could easily see it happening though if that was a problem. As for reading at night or watching the tv while the other sleeps - if I read, I go somewhere else to do it; if I watch tv, I have the volume very low so she can sleep.

Normally we start out sleeping together at night but sometimes I get up in the middle of the night or after she falls asleep and go sleep downstairs in the basement spare bedroom. It's much cooler and I can play my Xbox in peace before falling a sleep.

Not a major issue at all... it might feel odd at first, but you'll be a lot more relaxed and calm. I say it's not a big deal.

The g/f has been talking about this recently, she wants lights on plus the TV whereas I want total darkness and silence.

Not a good combination, one of us has to suffer.

To each their own, but based on my personal experience with couples who do it, I don't feel their relationships are all that great on other levels. I had a coworker/friend who had separate bedrooms and they also opted to never have kids. Probably for the best on the latter because they just never seemed like a truly happy couple to me. Every time I would go to visit them, they just came across as buddies and nothing more. I never sensed any element of intimacy and I knew them really well so I don't think much changed after I would leave.

I used to hate sharing a bed with someone until I got used to it. Now I feel kind of odd when I don't wake up next to my SO.

The wife and I don't sleep together too often anymore. We're both pains to sleep with. I snore. She moves around like something is chasing her. I'll usually get up after a while and find somewhere to sleep in the spare bedrooms or down in my man-cave, they're all well equipt with alarm clocks 🙂

Go to bed together every night. When one of you is restless or noisy or temperature challenged, someone can move to the spare bedroom or couch for the rest of the night.
This is what we do.

We both designed and decorated our new master suite and we thoroughly enjoy it.

My parents have been doing this for years due to the different times in which they sleep.

I'm not at home much anymore but i think they are doing fine.

linky for you

i'm all for it. i've been living with my gf for ~2.5 years now, and the whole time we've had separate beds. to start with, i don't like sharing a bed with someone else (i needs my space, which is especially hard with 3 dogs). second, we've got separate schedules. third, she likes to sleep for 10 to 12 hours at a time. fourth, i doubt we could ever agree on a mattress (i know, sleep number beds or two twins).

Bah. Bedroom is for sleeping. If there's a problem with snoring, etc then maybe it makes sense. Personal space? in the bedroom? you're supposed to be asleep!

Nope. My wife and I have been sleeping in the same bed since we moved in together some 16 or so years ago.

If either of us thought it would be a good idea to sleep in separate beds I think we'd have to take a serious look at our relationship.

why is that? why is sleeping together so important?

I think to reaffirm your bond on a daily basis, even if your arnt making love, its still the bond thinky going on!

Sometimes that's the only time we see each other. Two over-achievers getting married... happens. 🙂
