Sent Package To Germany Via USPS First Class Three Weeks Ago

I mailed a package to Germany three weeks ago. The clerk at the post office said it should be there in about two weeks. Stupid me, I didn't get any tracking info (nor did they offer, like they usually do with most packages I mail out) and lost the receipt.

The only information I have is the mailing date and the address. I know at some point USPS hands off to someone else (e.g. Germany Post Office). I'm trying to find out what happened to the package.

What can the USPS do? Are there any other avenues I can take as to tracking down this package?

you had to fill out a declaration form anyhow with Customs info and what not. Check adn see if there is ways for them to track it with that.
You should have a copy of the form.

I gave all three copies to the clerk and the USPS online doesn't keep them in your account. D'oh!

Clerk at the PO said log back into your account and get a copy of the declaration form. It's not there 🙁.

an overseas package can take 6 months before it's considered 'lost'. They won't even start an investigation for about 90 days. It takes I think 45 days before you are eligible to file for a lost package.

This is a big scam on ebay where you pay they ship you the item and it's defective. They are more than willing to refund you the money once you send it back.

When you do they are in an area where tracking is severely delayed. While they have the package within a week or two the system here never gets updated.

By the time the USPS investigates you are now outside feedback, chargeback, and similar windows.

Still USPS has been great and economical shipping to mainland Japan for us.

You need to call someone at USPS stat.

The only time I worked with international shipping was part of a business with moderate volume, so we got all sorts of attention when things went missing... call them though and get someone committed to helping you out.

If the declaration form isn't online, it may have been separated from the package which is why it's being held up.

Thank you all. I did talk to the clerk, but I don't know if they can help me without some sort of reference number from my end. I have address sent to and date sent out, but have no copy of the declaration forms that went with the package.

I'll go back to the post office and see what they can do for me without that information.

I don't think the USPS website account keeps track of the customs forms you sent out. It keeps track of the postage (e.g. priority and up) that you've bought.
