Guys, it doesen't really have much to do with your taste buds. Your tongue can only sense a few different taste sensations; bitter, sweet, sour and salty.... the rest of it is connected to your nose.

That's why you can say things like "That tasted like concrete", even though you've (probably) never really tasted concrete before.

That's been proven un-true about the few taste sensations in Feb 2002, although smell still has a large bit to play with taste.
If you can give me the date, you should be able to give me an article. 😛
like I have time to go find out where the sorce is for the info that came from an A.M. radio show I heard last week about taste buds. and yes, I believe it to be true, as I remember reading about the discovery in the newspaper when it was published. something about how taste buds aren't grouped like they said in the 1970's school text books and that they where actually gouped as clusters of varying taste nerves that could dissertain thousands of different chemical mixes and textures.

Yes. A friend of mine lost both her senses of taste and smell following an accident where she received some brain damage. Now, three years later, she's only gained parts of it back.

I worked with a guy who was in an automobile accident, apparently a car ran over his head and was in a coma for three months after waking up he could not smell or taste anything however, he could see and hear.
