That's what you get for trying to sensationalize the news. Jumped the gun too early because of his irrational hype and has to lose face by stepping down. These liberal "journalists" make me LAUGH! You would think to research and prove authenticity of photos before tryiing to make a quick buck off this war.

YOU GOT SERVED!

"Ministers will still worry though that the damage done by the Mirror's original publication of the pictures in enflaming Arab opinion and endangering British troops who would bear the brunt of any retaliation will endure."

This editor should be thrown in jail for endangering the lives of British troops and enflaming Arabs. He probably cost the lives of a few soldiers. He has blood on his hands, throw him into the hammer!!!

At least he owned up to his mistake, took responsibility for it, and resigned because it made his organization look bad.

Edit: Bah, you hit the post button before me Czar!

Kinda funny (as in pequliar) - this is the tabloid that competes with the Sun.
They were trying to upstage the Sun, which is Rupert Murdochs instant 'Fox' there.

I'm not sure his political affiliation had anything to do with this. It is indeed pretty shoddy journalism to have printed these photos without verifying their authenticity. One wonders what the source for the pictures was, but in any case it certainly appears the Mirror jumped the gun.

Whatever that means . . . This comment, and the thread title, treat a serious subject with what sounds like the tone of a jubilant child. To me that trivializes a serious subject.

I'm not sure what "throw him into the hammer" means.

I think it is legitimate to worry that these pics might lead to reprisals against Britons, so their publication is most unfortunate. That said, I think it's unlikely the pics will lead directly to the deaths of any soldiers.

I find it hard to imagine this editor being charged criminally. I suppose if there were evidence he had deliberately published the pics, knowing they were fake (that last element is the key), it could constitute treason. I definitely think it was a fairly major screw-up by the paper, in any case, and it's appropriate that someone pay a price for it.
