sennheiser hd428 cord chewed through--options?

At $50 it's a tough call, unless you really, really like that one particular pair -- but if the headphones could be disassembled to where you could get access to the cable's solder connections, a new cable could be installed.

You could probably get a 3.5mm stereo patch cable of sufficient length and cable diameter from Monoprice or wherever, cut one of the ends off, feed that through the grommet, strip the sheathing and insulation as needed, and resolder. This is assuming you have a soldering iron handy.

many Sennheisers have detachable cords for easy replacement, but not this model...

Are you handy with a soldering iron? if the damage is right at the rubber boot of the phones, then you will need to disassemble one side, per the video (see above post).

If the damage is along the cord, you could cut out the bad portion and splice the good parts together. There will be 3 wires inside, left+, right+ and ground - don't mix them up - they should be color-coded. Slip pieces of heat-shrink tubing over the main jacket and each signal wire BEFORE you solder anything together.
