Sennheiser HD280 or HD550?

I saw the Amazon price earlier. I read one article/review saying they can be found for under $75 if you look around. The guy probably meant $74.99. LOL. Still, $76 doesnt sound bad considering the 280s & 550s go for about $99.

I'm on my second pair of HD280s. The first pair had the band crack after about a year. At first I taped them together, but over the next 12 months the band really fell apart, so I sent them in and Sennheiser sent me a new pair. Supposedly the earlier models had brittle plastic in the band and they've since moved to a more flexible plastic because of all the problems. I've had the new pair they sent me for 2 years now without any problems, although I haven't used this pair heavily.

Its a great set of headphones though if you like closed ones, it sounds great and is pretty comfortable to wear for long times.

Does anyone know if Sennheiser will cross ship and if they will send me a new pair of Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones sense my band basically fell apart completely. It is now two pieces but I was able to tape it back together so its usable for now.

i can only comment on the 280 pros but mine are great, and i've had them for around 2 years...headband still in-tact, and no signs of breaking yet. (knock on wood)

the sennheiser hd280's are probably the best sennheiser headphones you can get that don't require an amp. otherwise, I would look into the grado s80 (if they're still made). I'm not sure about the 550s, but the 580's are also a fine set of cans.
