WTF are you smoking?

I said at the UofU, I edited the list. You get 8 at the UofU for all my APs, 4 for others like AP Enviro. I was told it differes from state to state no?

I'm not smoking anything. 72 credit hours in university is about 3 years of classes.
Thoes AP classes do not equate to 3 years of university

Depending on how you scored on the APs, you should get credit at most schools...I don't know how the IB comes into play, but it should be similar. If you have the ability to, I strongly suggest eventually visiting some schools you have on your mind...college isn't just about the classes, far from it...the environment makes a huge difference. My family took my sister to UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Penn and Carnegie Mellon over the summer and I realized what I missed by not visiting those schools and just settling for UMich...and now that's even more evident...but that's a long story 🙂

I know that in LA, where my buddy attends, 24 are a year. But I have the paper in front of me from the UofU. My friend assumed that their numbering system is different. As I said, I get 2 years max with IB.

Here's the full list:

AP CALC AB + BC
AP BIO
AP Chem right now
Might take AP Stat if I can study the material w/o the class.

I didn't like AP Physics much.

Others:
AP English Literature
AP English Language
AP German
AP US History
AP European History
AP Psychology

Oh ok, I got it now. I was thinking semester hours, so half that and I have 32. 1.5 years plus IB diploma gets me 2 there. I'm not sure whether other school take both AP and IB together, usually it's one or the other.

I took 6 AP classes, and it didn't equate to 2 years of credits.
I guess you're getting a "good deal"

For the last time I have 8 tests so far, 10 to be at the end of the year.
Plus I'm getting my IB diploma. Why do you keep mentioning that you didn't get 2 years with 6.

It should be pointed out (along with confirming what most of the other users have responded with) that how many actual semesters one is afforded for those advanced credits is greatly dependent not only on the major, but also the university one is attending.

A significant portion of the Advanced Placement (Calculus BC, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, US History, English Lit, and English Lang) and escrow credit (I attended a local college for one or two classes each semester, beginning the summer prior to 9th grade) I received - a total of 48 credits - ended up as elective credit for my specific major.

Exactly, which is why I refered to my local UofU. They waive general Ed with an IB diploma. People simply got confused because I posted only my Math and Science classes, and thought I only took 4 tests, when I took 8 so far.

Utah doesn't give credit for both AP and IB either

If a student has both AP and IB credit, the IB credit is awarded first, then any additional AP credit will be awarded. If IB credit has been awarded and duplicates AP credit, the AP credit will be reduced by the amount of credit awarded for an IB Higher Level Subject in a specific area.

have you ever checked the trading world? I worked in it over the summer and absolutely loved it, and Im going to go into it once i get thru business school. It makes good money, and is def not going to be boring.

I almost quit IB because of that, but as I talked to my IB leaders they refered me up to the U, and they assured me that is comes out to 2.

Somebody is blowing smoke up your rear if you think you are going to get two years worth of college for AP exams. Universities are not required to accept those AP scores for credit but most do as a 'benefit' type thing.

Also, many schools are anal about what AP classes you took what score you got and how many credits they will give you for those scores.

Here: 2 semester hours = 1 credit hour. I highlighted the test I took, and 2 (chem and german lit) which I will take by the end.

So 10x4=40 and 1x2=2 so 42 plus IB. Am I wrong or something. I don't see why SampSon keeps saying I won't get 2 years. I even have concurrent Med Terms and Humanities, plus IB. I just wanted some suggestions, and people started flaming me for not having 2 years...WTF?

Why are you counting Calc AB and BC? I doubt you will be able to apply both.

The only reason why I took BC is because our teacher told us that we get double credit. I'm pretty sure you get 8 for both, only Computer Science gives you 4 for both.

Yeah SF, it's not a hard school to get into, but it's local and the best option. I'll look at something out of state, but I need scholarships. And they're not credit hours, but semester hours, hehe.

It sounds as though you like numbers and computers, so why don't you look into making a small buisness concerning computers. Or joining some other already establihed company. If this sounds good, look into a good buisness school and get your mba.

Here's where SampSon is likely coming from:
4 credits x 10 AP exams = 40 credits.
Most colleges requires upwards 128 someodd credits to graduate -- Mine did it in 4credits/class so it was 2 semesters x 4 credits per class x 4 classes semester = 32 credits on average per year to graduate.

You have 40 which bleeds you into the next year, but isn't the lion's share of it by any measure.

Concerning your IB, it's likely that, despite what you've been told, your AP credit will be reduced in proportion to IB. If you want to be absolutely certain it won't, you will REQUIRE something in writing by someone with authority in the university. Trust me, I've seen it happen a lot. Get it in writing clearly stated so that even an idiot knows what is going on now or be prepared to lose it.

On top of all this, generally speaking, any course tracks required for your major often will refuse to issue credit for AP courses as they usually don't cover requirements towards your major. This is not covered by general admissions advisors because it's often handled by department heads(head of mathematics for instance) anyways. Example, my university will not accept AP credit for calculus AB or BC for mathematics or computer science majors and will still require you to take math credits on campus to meet your major's requirement. With department permission (trivial to obtain), they will allow you to apply those credits towards your graduation requirement in general, but they will count as elective credits, not major credits.

Everyone around me tells me that business school is a waste of time for some reason. I don't know why, seems like the requirements are too easy. I guess I wan't some challenge, though a computer based company has been going through my mind. Locally IT seems so be going well.
