During first period i get a memo saying that the seniors have all ditched today, and that we are to keep the students in class during recess.
of course they can walk around and have their snacks in the classroom ... considering the seniors class has skipped school and is likely to drive around the campus dangerously during this time
This is a small private school with about 60-70 people per grade level. I just find this really funny.
Im glad i dont teach during the period before recess, so i get to see potential drama unfold 😉

ok #1.. its the middle of march.... ditch day is usally the day after finals at the END of the year..

#2 what kinda Highschool still has recess?
recess is for grade schoolers that cant sit still.. most HSs only have a 5 minute period between classes to get to your next class...
and then a 1 hour lunch period.. ..

strange school you work for..

Oh how great it is to be 18. Just call in and say you have an appointment, or something. ~_~

At least at my HS you still had to have a note from a parent to get out of classes even when you were 18. College is great though. Just don't go.

You didn't read the whole thread.

He's talking about the 5+ minutes between classes. And since when does there have to be a valid excuse to ditch class?

At my school we didn't have school after finals... Seniors had their finals a week or two early, then the day after senior finals was "prom" (seniors had off that day), then the Sunday after prom (which was on a Friday) we left for our senior trip, then we came back for graduation.

Well Senior ditch DAY is not senior ditch DAYS..
its always been a tradition.. its the 1 day the whole class does it and the school doesnt do anything to them =P

turn that into ditch days and well.. you gotta a problem

Actually we have those anyway. This recess is an extra 8 minute break between classes. Its a chance to have snack because lunch is so late in the day. The bell rings at the end of it and students have 3 more minutes to get to class.

who would ditch school, just to hang around school and drive dangerously?
Alot of these kids have been coming to this school for the past 12 years, and it sad really, but they feel a certain superiority here. Outside these walls they sort of fall apart.

Really, that sounds like a lame ass senior ditch day. When I was a senior on senior ditch day a ton of kids ditched and drove to six flags magic mountain. IIRC a bunch of people from the schoo caught wind of it and drove down there too and busted them (its about a 3 hour drive). My group of friends who I hung around with had our own senior ditch day another day and it went quite well now that I think about it.

Our school was wise to Senior Skip day. The word got passed around that they zero tolerance and anyone skipping would be punished. About half the class skipped anyway and the rest of us went in. Those who skipped got detentions unless they had a signed note and few did. Those of us who went in did absolutely no school work at all, we were given "extra credit" tests that involved little more than printing out name at the top to get a perfect score, we played games, had study periods, just BSed all day. Then we just skipped a different day and got away with it.
