my roommate's computer's internet has recently stopped working. his local area connection information says he's been sending trillions of packets and not recieving any. i reinstalled his network card once and even formatted his computer and yet its still doing the same thing. my computer works fine on the net (we have share a t1 with our apt complex)... can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Have you tried the simple things like a different network cable (just in case you've got a busted wire or a bent pin on the connector) or tried a different network card?

we tried a different network cable but not a different card yet- his is a built in network plug in the motherboard (asus p4p800) and he has the drivers for it~ we're gonna try a different card later~

could be a bad cable in the wall, or, more probably, the nic is going crazy... motherboard should be under warranty since its relatively new

Well, it looks like you successfully ruled out the cable and the port on the other end of the connection, so the NIC is the next logical choice. Another possibility, though slightly less likely, would be some kind of driver issue, or a speed/duplex/flow control negotiation issue.
