So, what format are they going to put the names in? An ASCII text file in ISO9660 format? Or lasered into the surface in English in really small letters? And will be be a full size disc or a mini-disc (since even several million names won't fill up a CD)?

What'd make it even cooler is if they made it so the rover would read the names aloud once it lands on Mars, using a voice synthesizer. I suppose that would add too much weight to the rover though.

Of course, they're only sending two. With NASA's track record lately, there's a pretty good chance neither of them are going to land properly. So we'll all have our names crash-landed on Mars or floating through space for millions of years.

I find that totally pointless.

I mean, wtf does it matter that my name will be sent to Mars on a CD? Its not like anybody's there to read it or do anything with it. And once it comes back, it'll prolly go straight in the wastebasket.

But, oh, well, have your fun simple-minded ones. :p ;)
