Send/Receave Text from a Computer

trying to setup some sort of way for Dispatch at my company to communicate via text to company issued cellphones. currently we all text to the employees using our own phones, but that limits the information because it is limited to who sent the msg, is there anyone that offers say a website that can setup a shared texting number everyone in dispatch can share as a way we can jointly communicate with the drivers we are dispatching?

Email group in the mail server for:
phonenumer@theserviceprovider.com

They all have them.

3125551212@messaging.sprintpcs.com for example.

that could work, but our email is pretty archaic. we just have 10 emails setup thru GoDaddy that we got for the website, we ran out of them so they just created GMails for people who don't need it as much (yeah I know...I'm the new guy, trying to bring things into the 21st century).

also for that to work, there would need to be a phone number (not a reply to a text) that would dump right into the email box. any ideas? maybe I just creat a shared google account with a gvoice #??

I've used SendHub for basic group messaging (keeping parents on my kids' sports teams updated). My needs fit into the Free plan - the only downside is that if the message wasn't short it would truncate it and include a link to the website which kinda defeated the purpose in my eyes.

looks like an option. wish there was an option just for text, without the voice since that is not needed.

Yeah a free Google Voice account can be set up to forward texts to email. I have never tried but there might be a text to group feature for google voice. I have no idea. As for the group to texts, if you use something like outlook, you can create the group locally and just dump the group and addresses as vcards to update the other accounts address book. Obviously quite a bit crummier than a central solution.

Really? It's gotten so bad we can't spell "receive" correctly?

I'd actually be curious about this as well. Would be cool to implement sms into my custom monitoring app. I'm not always in wifi range so it would be cool to get server/environmetnal alerts via text. I tried the phone number @ provider trick but seems it does not work for my provider. Wonder if a text can be sent with a land line, could have a dialup modem.

get google account
sign up for google voice number
add google voice extension to chrome
text any number from your browser like a boss.
