I need to send this rebate in today! I posted part of this to the rebate tracking thread, but since it hardly gets read...

I purchased two printers from Office Max (2 receipts), one for me, one for my parents. Can they send in the rebate in their name, if I made the purchase with my credit card? And does it make any difference if my name (next to 'cardholder:') is on the receipt or not?

And, it was originally purchased on the 10th. Going by that receipt, I'm 2 days over the 14 days they say to send it in by. Does that matter?

Also, on the 17th OM gave me some credit back to my credit card since the printer they sold me was used. The receipt I got then says Exchange in bigger letters at the top, and in the item list/price section it shows the orig price and new lower price, and below that in the payment section, it just shows the amount credited back to my card. Do I mail this receipt or the original?

You can always black out your name on the receipt. However, I doubt they will ever look at the name. Blacking it out may arouse interest.
Most rebates are one per family. You will have to use differnet addresses and other tracking info.

They look at the postmark date very carefully. Over - You lose - that way they keep the money. :(

Mail original receipts. That is what the rebate paper probably states.

Most rebate companies do not allow you to transfer rebate rights. If you purchased it with your credit card then you have to send in the rebate. (You avoid this problem by paying cash for one of the items.) However, you won't need to worry about it in this case since the rebate deadline has already passed. That generally is something the rebate companies do pay attention to.

This is an OfficeMax rebate though and they screw up so many legitimate rebates that some like yours might slip through. All you can lose by sending them in late is postage.

The only reason I even thought it might still be possible and bothed asking is because I once returned/rebought something at OM to get a newer receipt and the manager said I didn't really need to do that, that they would still probably have accepted it. Note that I'm not past a deadline date (like some MIR's say send in before a certain date), but just past the 14 days after purchase, if that matters. :)

BTW, by original receipts, don't they only mean not a photocopy? If an item is exchanged, is the original receipt still valid?

If the first receipt has the item code on it with a price and is not marked through by the store, it is valid.

So I can't use the 'Exchange' credit receipt? It's still within the 14 days. It has the item listed, and the item price. It just doesnt show my payment (since it's a partial credit).

Any experiences with getting OM MIRs accepted/rejected after 14 days?

All the time, you're screwed. See if they'll let you do a return/rebuy if the rebate is still valid and all you did was go over the "must be postmarked within 14days of purchase deadline".

I've never had a problem with submitting rebates when bought with a different name on the credit card. The only place that I had problems is Circuit City since they print your name/address on the reciept. Just make sure if you bought 2 to have them put on different reciepts.

What do you mean 'all the time'? Are you saying I can't use the exchange receipt (which is within 14 days)?
