Senator John McCain tells MLB to come up with Steriod plan or else Congress will

``Your failure to commit to addressing this issue straight on and immediately will motivate this committee to search for legislative remedies,'' McCain, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, told players' union chief Donald Fehr.

``I don't know what they (the remedies) are. But I can tell you, and the players you represent, the status quo is not acceptable. And we will have to act in some way unless the major league players union acts in the affirmative and rapid fashion,'' the senator said.

I'm sorry, but the feds have no business sticking their nose in here.

MLB can come up with a plan or not, either way there should NOT be any interference on behalf of the government.

The laws currently in place are sufficient for everyone else, they should be sufficient for baseball players.

Players caught using steroids should get a lifetime ban from baseball - it's worse than betting on games in my eyes. It's cheating, plain and simple. Their "records" should be taken out of the books. If Buck Weaver gets a lifetime ban, the cheaters should too.

The country comes down on weedheads like a ton of bricks yet they let this sh!t slide? I think that they're (congress) setting an example that drug use won't be tolerated across the board, since it looks like an entire league of ballplayers is exempt from this as it stands. No matter how you slice it, it's unfair, immoral, and sets a terrible example for the youth that look up to these guys. It might not be worthy of congress' time, but it's good that someone will do something about this.

I agree on the second part. IMO, the double standard in "the war" needs to stop. Either drop it altogether and admit it's a pipe dream, or keep trying to enforce it. This looks like one way they're trying to do that.

I disagree. And I disagree b/c the point is that steroids are illegal. If the substances in question are in fact legal (like andro, etc.) then I would say that congress should butt out, but as long as we're talking about an illegal substance the government has a right to intervene.

Because a simple bill like this is quick to draft, and easy to pass. When you have hundreds of billions of dollars to budget, and every congressmen dipping their hands in for "the people they represent" it takes a long ass time to get stuff done.

Yeah, I know. I was just stating my opinoin on what baseball should do about it. The possibility of a lifetime ban would probably discourage them. I guess I'm with Viper GTS on this, MLB ought to grow a set of balls and handle it themselves.

What ever happened to a right to privacy? If you did anonymous tests where I work you'd probably find that a good portion smoke weed. My company has no drug testing policy, they honestly don't care. Should the government be able to force the company to ID those who tested positive?

What about people who fail pre-employment drug screens? Should they be reported too?

Why is baseball any different?
