As much as I've studied the Kennedys, I've never determined the proportions of the wealth sources, but I'll say a few facts and my impression:

The bootlegging thing is nonsense, a political attack and virtually nothing else. The Kennedys were already wealthy - JFK once remarked, regaridng his lifestyle as a young man with the private, insulated travel and the servents, that he'd only learned of the Great Depression through reading - and not people who needed to put stills out in the backyard for moonshine.

Joe Kennedy was the youngest bank president in the nation at the age of 25, through arranging financing. His banking career led to finance; he was very successful in the stock market, including the typical techniques of the day that were later outlawed - with his help as a kowledgable insider, when he became the first chairman of the new FDR agency the SEC, set up to clean up the markets.

On alchohol, Kennedy pursued influence with FDR - writing a book supporting him in the election - and was rewarded by FDR, when prohibition ended, with the exclusive contract for importing certain liquors for a period of time. Kennedy also entered and profited in the movie industry. He bought the biggest piece of commercial real estate in Chcago - and this led him to some inevitable contact with mob figures, with whom it's never been shown that I'm aware that he was in business with, but he had some relationships with them.

Indeed, this led to some conflict as the mobsters thought they might be able to get a break from a Kennedy presidency - only to learn to their dismay that the Kennnedy brothers were anti-mob crusaders, beginning with their work on the Kefauver committee in the 50's - where lead counsel Robert Kennedy told mob boss Sam Giancana he giggled like a little girl - to the unprecedented federal effort under Robert Kennedy to take the nation to war with the mob and get rid of it in its strongholds.

So, the Kennedy fortune - one of the largest in the nation - was 'legitimate' almost entirely as far as I'm aware. I shoulld do some more research to firm up the facts, though.

The day the crisis was announced on intercom .That day a became a repulican .

Which makes no sense, since Republicans were the party of failed policies who exacerbated the cold war and likely would have taken us to nuclear was in the missile crisis, while Kennedy was the candidate who was the strongest advocate for peace IMO probably in our presidential history, at least in several decades, from his forming the basis for detente, to his shift of policy from pro-US right0wing dictators to neutral leaders for other countries, to his shift to stop supporting European colonization in the third world.

Day kenndey was killed I was the only one that didn't cry at St. Augustines

Our nation was dealt an enormous blow, as it went down a much worse road.

You almost sound proud not to appreciate that.

I don't know how old you are. This America resemblies nothing like the America of my youth . The decline started in 60.

So why don't you do something to make things better?

All I see you doing here is trying to destroy.

I think the real decline started in 1981 - I don't refer to the loss of JFK as the start of the decline, but as a great loss where the nation went back to the 'normal' pollitics.

And soon enough the nation was stumbling again on things like Viet Nam that JFK had kept us out of, even while LBJ got JFK's civil rights bill passed.

You're still a pathetic turd for even bothering with it in this thread about him collapsing. He's also done more good for this country than you'll ever accomplish in your pathetic, mean spirited, petty life.

Like working to elect his Traitor in Chief brothers?

You called John and Robert Kennedy traitors to the country they were killed serving?

Joe Kennedy was definitely a very smart man but his significant fortunes indeed were started by stock manipulation and bootlegging. These ventures financed his purchases of legitimate businesses which he did turn to great financial gain. By most accounts (even those of my family who did business with him) he was one of the most ruthless people you could encounter.

Teddy has serious medical issues.
He probably wont last much beyond a year or so, at best.
True, he did like to party, booze and hit on the women in his early
days. And he did use his fame and power to impress women.

He has tried to clean up his act. Probably from strong advice by his closest
friends and co senators.

But beyond all that, he has done a lot for you and me in the senate.
I think the family leave act was just one law he made happen.
That is, and think about it..., if your kid or spouse were to get very ill,
say cancer or worse, then you would no doubt need to take time off work
from time to time to help and be with your child or spouse.
In the past, you could be fired for taking that time off.
With the family leave act, you are protected.

You may not think this is important to you, but if tomorrow
you kid comes down with leukemia, you'll thank Teddy?s fat white "A"
he was there for YOU in the senate.
