Haha. The republicans don't want to ask the wealthy to give up their tax cuts to pay for this war, but they will ask young people to give up their lives. How typical of GOP priorities.

Galt and I agree for once. Except I think the consequences would be different. This would force people to be more involved. No more mercenary wars. If you want blood in Iraq, be prepared to share YOUR blood. (BTW Galt, I they need mercenaries in Iraq. Go get there right now.)

The Nebraska Republican added that a draft, which was ended in the early 1970s, would spread the burden of military service in Iraq more equitably among various social strata.

"Those who are serving today and dying today are the middle class and lower middle class," he observed.

The committee's Republican chairman, Richard Lugar, also slammed the White House for "inadequate planning and communication related to Iraq."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, I didn't see this coming. So many Republicans trying to become Republicans again and not NeoCons. I thought they would all go down with the ship like the Titanic.

nuxto, saying "wont happen" (sic) is not helpful. Give a reason why you think it won't happen.

What's wrong with you people and this dumb Senator. Didn't he and thee get the message from UltraQuiet? There will be no draft. UQ is on the same base with the Chief of Naval Personnel, so that makes him the resident expert.

Nope, no draft is coming.

Sheezh.... and a Republican is making the suggestion to boot. :)

I apologize in advance for not posting something more intelligent, like the beer glass, but where exactly in the article does Hagel call for the draft to be reinstated?

"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said, arguing that restoring compulsory military service would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face."

Do you have a point, you stupid old man? Hmm, do you? I guess what I should start doing is just lying about it like you do or pretending to know something that I don't. Better yet I think I'll just ridicule and call you out everytime you post something stupid and constantly ridicule you for it (bandwith allowing). I think we'll start with your prediction of all the outrage that was going to ensue after the RNC advised the networks not to run the moveon ads. Where was all the outrage Bobby? You said there was going to be a huge outcry. Where was it? Shall I revive the thread?

When there's a draft, you'll have a point and I'll admit I was wrong. Until then I'll put my sources against anyones, especially some stupid old fool who gets his info peddling a three wheeler up and down South Beach.

Conscription and implementing a draft are two different animals.

No doubt...0% chance of passing.

John Galt, you have surrendered to shallow analysis. It's not too late to use reason and win the battle against ignorance.
